Before reading the books I hadn't really read anything for my own enjoyment ever and I used to say "well how can the books, which are only words be better than the show" and oh man, I was so stupid. the books are amazing, leagues better than the show in my opinion, and I believe that every Game of Thrones fan should read Lot of story lines going on at the same time and a lot of people getting killed like in game of thrones. Also littlefinger is in it he plays a similar power hungry character in season 3. It's very good and has a lot going on.

The show is good, but it is heartbreaking for me to watch knowing how many storylines and character arcs end without sense or meaning in the “canon” ending as it exists. You will love your first watch, and it is worth it, even if it crushes you in the end, which is a very Game Of Thrones sort of way for it to have ended, ironically.
