Rock Band 1 originally did not allow Guitar Hero peripherals to be used. On 360 and PS3, this was later updated to be possible. The Wii version could not be updated, however, so it remains that you cannot use GH peripherals on that version. What’s weird is that you could still use gh stuff on the ps2 version and you couldn’t update that either.
You can use it with some Guitar Hero games. You can find a full compatibility chart here (see the "Rock Band 1, 2, and The Beatles: Rock Band guitars" column), but a quick summary: If it's a Wii guitar, you can only use it with GH5, Band Hero, and WoR.
